M2000 2012 no serial plate

Post by Acp »

Hello, I recently got a m2000. It plays great. But I noticed that it doesn't have the serial plate on the headstock. Rather, it has the decal. I've seen one other example like this, and I read that in 2012 a few instruments still used this style if they were some kind of special edition. There are no cherryburst special editions from 2012 that I can find, so my theory is that this was a trade show demo instrument. Also the spec sheet does not list the neck as quarter sawn, which it is. So another possibility is that the neck was replaced.

I'm very happy with the instrument, but I'm also curious about it's history. My main concern is that if it's some kind of one off, I don't want to tinker with it. But if it's just a mass production bass with it's neck replaced, I might want to see what kind of mods I can do.

Anyway, thanks for your help in advance.

Here is the reverb listing with some photos, including the spec sheet and serial number: https://reverb.com/item/89275700-g-l-m- ... ctive-bass

Now I will attempt to add my own photos:

It looks like this topic is a duplicate of one in the G&L Knowledgebase Forum->General G&L Questions subforum, where I posted this reply to:
