New to G&L Forum

Post by christianbryant »

Greetings from California!

I've had Fender guitars for most of my life and while I was aware of G&L I never actually held one. I happened to come across a G&L for sale that had previously belonged to the late Brad Pie, a guitarist who worked with Johnny Otis. I've always been a fan of Otis and decided I had to get the guitar. Brad's wife had put his collection up for consignment at TrueTone Music and I felt good helping out the family (to be honest, I bought two old Fenders from the collection, as well).

The G&L is a Fullerton ASAT Classic Bluesboy in blueburst and it came with the OHSC, certificate and specifications sheet. The guitar is beautiful and feels incredible. I will admit that I swapped the included D'Addario 10's with Ernie Ball 11's and the tone is right where I want it now. This is the 2021 swamp ash model with the maple/Caribbean rosewood neck. The weight is just shy of 8 lbs and feels substantial while not putting a strain on the neck and shoulders. Brad had swapped the original knobs and switch tip out with Guyker ones, but I quite like them.

Overall I'm absolutely in love with this guitar. I'm already looking for a G&L Fullerton Deluxe to compliment the ASAT Classic (trading in the Fenders ;) ). I guess this is the beginning of a new guitar brand loyalty relationship!

Cheers!

congrats on your discovery! We've known this for awhile, the quality and tone/playability of the G&L gtr's is exceptional.
have fun exploring the range. the right number of G&L's to have is, of course, one more 8-)

Thank you! Always look forward to that "new guitar" smell when the case cracks open :D
